About Us
Pembrey & Burry Port Photographic Society was established in November 1987.It was originally an evening class in Pembrey Memorial Hall with less than 12 people attending to learn more about photography and how to use their own equipment.
When the classes came to an end due to low attendance figures we wanted to continue meeting so the club was born. Soon after the club formed we joined the Welsh Photographic Federation so we were able to compete against other clubs in the local area and join them in events and competitions known as 'Battles'.
In 1994 the local council offered us a room in the old Copperworks School that was being brought back into use by other local groups. Up until then if we wanted to take indoor photographs we only had at the most 2½ hours to set-up, take the pictures and then take down our equipment as we were still using the local community hall and restricted in time.
Move to new premises
We were given a short rent free period in return for all the remedial work that needed to be done in the school and this was carried out by the members. Much of this work was carried out by Wilf Bryan our then President including the building of our darkroom and later, in putting up the gantry for our studio lighting. We moved into our new premises in February 1995.In March 1998 with the aid of a National Lottery grant we were able to buy equipment for the studio and the Darkroom. In October 1998 we were invited by Jessops to have a stand the Photo Action Exhibition in the NEC Birmingham where we could display our work and promote the club at a national event. This was highly successful and we were invited back again the following year but unfortunately there was not enough interest in the event and the show was cancelled.
Our Current premises
We remained in the Copperworks school until September 2014 when unfortunately, the building had become structurally unsafe and we were forced to move out.We have now moved to Hermon Chapel, Pembrey.Where we have rebuilt and improved our facilities.
Location of the Club
The chapel is situated between Waun Deri and Rhoddfa Capel , Pembrey which are both turnings right off Maes-y-Capel.From Gwscwm Road turn into Maes-y-Capel, then turn Right in to Waun Deri.
The chapel is at the end of this cul de sac There is a very small car park that can be accessed from Waun Deri.
